Burlap Is Not Ribbon.

To all the ladies out there that love their burlap, I have bad news for you . . .

Burlap does not qualify as ribbon. I know, that’s both heart breaking and shocking. Don’t get me wrong, I love burlap and lace as the perfect touch to a rustic chic wedding; here’s some things you should know before you cover every inch of your wedding in burlap.

First, we only use real burlap. Think up-cycled coffee bags, ones that housed fresh produce from the farmer’s market, A.K.A the legit stuff. With that being said nervous, sweaty palms wrapped tightly around a bridal bouquet have a tendency to feel itchy against the rough burlap – or worse, they might smell like a farmer’s market (take that how you want it).

The other aspect that does not qualify burlap as ribbon is it’s never ending ability to shed EVERYWHERE. The second the scissors come out every little fiber decides it needs to explode onto your clothing. So ladies, make sure you don’t run your bouquet on your man’s black suit, otherwise those pesky brown fibers will be everywhere.

Lastly, when trying to consider whether or not to use burlap instead of ribbon, always assess your venue, you and your hubby-to-be’s style, and the overall essence you want your event to exude. If you’re looking for a more natural feel, or prefer to represent your rustic roots then we will have to agree that burlap would be the perfect touch to pull everything together. If you’re still not sure that it’s for you, here’s some great alternatives with a similar feel:

  • Raffia

  • Linen

  • Grosgrain-in natural colors.

  • Twill
